The Sultan City Council will take public comment on proposed changes to water rates at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sultan Community Center, 319 Main St.
The city is considering bumping the cost to connect to city water from $5,254 to $6,209.
The city also wants to move to a tiered rate structure, where more water usage would equal higher bills. Now, the average Sultan family pays $26.06 a month for 600 cubic feet of water. The city proposes to charge $23.38 for 300 cubic feet. Customers who use 400 cubic feet would pay $25.89 a month. Those who use 600 cubic feet would pay $30.91 a month.
Customers who use less than 200 cubic feet would save money, paying $23.38 a month. If approved, the water rates would take effect Dec. 1.
