Lake Stevens: Public hearing on annexation

A public hearing is planned today regarding Lake Stevens’ proposed southwest annexation. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Snohomish County East Administration Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The Boundary Review Board will decide whether the addition of more than 10,000 people to the city should be allowed on the November ballot as proposed. The board’s decision won’t necessarily come tonight.

Members of the Lake Stevens City Council plan to attend the hearing.

Marysville: Food bank seeks volunteers

The Marysville Community Food Bank is looking for drivers and other volunteers.

Drivers are needed to pick up food from grocery stores, especially on Saturday mornings. Volunteers are needed from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays and 8 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Mukilteo: Expert to offer barbecue tips

Grilling season is here, and so is Food Network TV personality and expert barbecue cook Konrad Haskins, who is scheduled to teach a class with barbecue tips for beginners and expert cooks at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. The class starts at 2 p.m. Sunday and includes demonstrations and samples. Historical Society meets this Thursday

A presentation by Ann Collier about Mukilteo’s Trunk Treasures is scheduled for the Mukilteo Historical Society’s meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Items in the trunk were collected through donations and from the society’s museum collection. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Sultan: Meeting set tonight on water rates

The Sultan City Council plans a special meeting 7 tonight at 319 Main St. to discuss proposed hikes in rates and hookup charges to the city’s water system. Proposals include a plan to charge lower rates for residential customers who use less water and higher rates for those using more water. The hookup charge would cost $6,209 instead of $5,254.

The city needs to pay for repairs and maintenance on its system and make $200,000 annual debt payments on past improvements made to the water system, including a storage tank built in 2000.

Island County: Volunteer needed for solid waste committee

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the county’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

The committee consists of 12 members — three from municipal government, two from waste management businesses, four community members at large and three members of Island County government.

Members review solid waste programs and offer advice on solid waste policy. Deadline to apply is July 5.
