Meadowdale girls advance to Class 3A semifinals

TACOMA — Julia Fjortoft had 10 points and Meadowdale pulled away to defeat Enumclaw 45-37 in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A girls basketball tournament on Thursday.

The score was tied at halftime, but Meadowdale opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run, and then closed the quarter with seven straight points, sparked by Michaela O’Neill’s 3-pointer. The Mavericks led 37-25 after the third quarter.

Heather Hitch made several free throws in the fourth quarer for Enumclaw, but consecutive baskets by O’Neill kept the Hornets at bay. Hitch had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Enumclaw.

Tanya Zickefoose added eight points for Meadowdale. O’Neill and Dana Horn finished with six.

Mara Koplitz added 11 for the Hornets.
