Needed: Baby food, items for food bank

The Sky Valley Food Bank in Monroe is in need of baby items such as canned and boxed baby food, formula, diapers, wipes and other toiletries for infants and toddlers.

Items can be dropped off from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays at 233 Sky River Parkway, Monroe.

Benefit: Get photo with Easter Bunny

Staff from First Heritage Bank will take Easter Bunny photographs from noon to 3 p.m. April 11 at Mardini’s Restaurant, 101 Union Ave., Snohomish.

The event will take place after the Easter Parade. Cost is $10 and photographs will be saved on a CD so that they can be printed at home.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Junior Achievement, and the Snohomish Education Foundation. Call Sandy Bartel at 360-568-0536.

Benefit: Donate for Woven Together

The South Everett Neighborhood Center Familias Unidas is looking for donations to its spring fundraising event, Woven Together.

The center offers family support and provides courses, classes, and community events.

Student aid: $1,000 from garden club

The Floretum Garden Club of Edmonds is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a 2009 high school graduate, community college student or individual planning a career in a horticultural field.

Applicants will be selected based on interest in horticulture, floral design, landscape design, botany, forestry or a related field.

The selections will also take into consideration financial need, legal residency and a 3.25 grade point average or higher, as well as activities and achievements in school and community. The recipient must be a student in Washington state.

Deadline for applications is May 6. Application forms are available from school scholarship offices or the Floretum Garden Club’s scholarship chairwoman Joyce Johnson at 425-774-7865 or JoyceJohnson310@comcast.net.

Volunteer: Help protect frogs, toads

Frogwatch USA is a long-term frog and toad monitoring program that allows children and adults the opportunity to be directly involved in gathering information on declining numbers of frogs and toads.

A four-week course will cover how to collect and report information and how to help to protect wetland habitats.

The course will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. April 7-28 at Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds. One Sunday field trip is included to the NW Stream Center.
