Everett
Ceremony today for Swift bus transit stations
Community Transit is planning a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of its Swift bus rapid transit stations today.
The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Airport Road and Highway 99 in south Everett, the location of one of 24 planned new stations.
Fewer stops, more frequent service and streamlined ticketing at the new stations are among the features expected to cut commute time for people taking the bus between Everett and Shoreline on Highway 99.
Service is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2009, with buses arriving every 10 minutes from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and every 20 minutes evenings and weekends.
Community Transit is spending $32 million on the project, about half on the stations and half on the new buses.
