Rotary speaker talks about Uganda

The Everett Rotary Club and others may help build a school in Uganda for hundreds of orphans.

The school provides free education, infant care and a noon meal for the children.

The Rev. Joseph ­Ssebayigga will talk about the project at 6:30 tonight at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Hensen Hall, 2617 Cedar Ave., Everett.

Ssebayigga is priest of the Bugonga Parish in Entebbe, Uganda.

Admission is free. Please bring cookies to share. Beverages will be provided.

YMCA celebrates families this week

The YMCA of Snohomish County is participating in National Family Week, aiming to help families be active and play together.

How to celebrate:

Write a note to someone who helps your family, such as a teacher or coach.

Find a way to get involved in your community.

Sheriff Lovick talks turkey on KIRO

Sheriff John Lovick is a guest between noon and 3 p.m. Wednesday on The Dori Monson Show on KIRO radio (710 AM and 97.3 FM).

Lovick will donate half of the Turkey Fry donations received this year to Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

Tune in to bid on a deep-fried turkey.

Holiday closures on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is Thursday, resulting in some holiday closures:

Government: Federal, state and local offices are closed.

Schools: Closed.

Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses and banks are closed. Some retail stores are open, but malls are closed.

Transportation: Everett Transit, Community Transit and Dial-a-Ride are on Sunday schedules. On Friday, there is no Boeing-Everett service and some commuter trips are cancelled. Four state ferry routes will be on a holiday schedule: Point Defiance-Tahlequah, Seattle-Bainbridge, Edmonds-Kingston and Mukilteo-Clinton. There will be no passenger-only service between Seattle and Vashon Island. All other routes will operate on a regular Thursday schedule.

The Herald: Classified and the reception are closed. Customer service (delivery) will be available between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at 425-339-3200.
