Huskies lead 10-3 at halftime

Sorry for the lack of first-half posts, but we had some technical difficulties and I wasn’t able to update this blog.

Well in case you’re not in front of a TV, Washington leads 10-3 behind an 18-yard Jake Locker touchdown run and a 41-yard Ryan Perkins field goal. Washington’s touchdown drive covered 98 yards, giving the Huskies touchdown drives of 99 and 98 yards in the last two games.

Both teams have shown at times why they are near or at the bottom of the Pac-10 standings. Washington turned the ball over twice, and missed a field goal. Anthony Russo also lost control of what would have been a touchdown pass late in the half, and three plays later Jared Ballman missed a field goal attempt. The pass to Russo was initially ruled a catch, but overturned when officials decided he didn’t have control.

Stanford, meanwhile, was given a gift when it recovered a fumble at the Washington one, but fumbled the ball right back, setting up what would have been a 99-yard touchdown drive had the aforementioned pass to Russo not been overturned.

Washington is dominating in most stats, including a 303-156 advantage in total yards, and a 17-8 lead in first downs.

Aside from his fumble, Rankin had a great first half, gaining 113 yards on 13 carries. He also has 23 receiving yards.

Locker is 11 for 21 with an interception for 125 yards. Rushing he has 28 yards on eight carries (that number has been lowered by a pair of sacks). In the first quarter, Locker broke Washington’s record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a season. The old record was 697 yards, set by Dennis Fitzpatrick in 1974. Locker currently has 722 yards through eight and a half games.
