Thursday afternoon notes

Not a lot of football news today from our meeting with Tyrone Willingham. He said that safety Nate Williams will probably not make the trip to Corvallis. Williams injured his hamstring last week and has not be participating in practice this week.

As for whether or not J.R. Hasty would make the trip, Willingham only said, “He might, he might not.”

Willingham said there were no other significant injuries, but at practice we noticed that Johnie Kirton was in street clothes. Not sure if he’s hurt or sick or what, but we won’t be able to ask about it until Saturday night, so unfortunately I can’t update you on what’s going on there.

One topic that came up today talking to Willingham was Oregon State kicker Alexis Serna, who in the last three years is 13 for 13 on field goal attempts against the Huskeis, incuding the 2005 game where his six field goals accounted for all of OSU’s points.

“He is 13 for 13 if I am correct. It’s unbelievable. You think you play a darn good football game against them two years ago, and his six field goals beat you. I don’t know what it is. I think he just gets up for us or something. It’s something in purple or something, makes him accurate. When you limit a team just to field goals, you think you have a chance to win, but we haven’t been successful doing it.”
