Locker the No. 2?

I was told by a source that is familiar with how practice went this week that Jake Locker is the No.2 and that Johnny DuRocher has received virtually no snaps. This is a person who has proven reliable in the past, including letting me know early on Monday that Isaiah Stanback was out for the season and was having surgery Tuesday, so I have no reason to doubt what they’re telling me.

If it’s true, I would be pretty shocked if Locker doesn’t seen at least a couple of series on Saturday. I think the only thing keeping Locker from playing would be if Carl Bonnell is doing really well and the Huskies are in the game. If it gets out of hand, I think Locker plays. That doesn’t mean he goes into next week’s game as the starter, but it does mean that we will most definitely see him every game for the rest of the season.

That certainly makes the Cal game very worth watching.

No real news on the Husky front. Dashon Goldson is expected to play despite his bum ankle. My guess is if Cal goes nuts and tears apart the Husky secondary (which is more than possible), Goldson doesn’t play for very long.

If the game is a blowout, it’s also going to be interesting to see if the Huskies play some backups on the offensive line. Thus far, the starters have played almost every snap of the season, the only exception being Ben Ossai missing about two series a couple weeks ago. Tim Lappano said earlier this season he wouldn’t play guys just to play guys, but at this point, you’ve got to start thinking about getting some guys some experience and keeping some of the starters healthy.

I landed in Berkeley at about 4:30 p.m. and it was a beautiful 79 degrees, which is the forecast for tomorrow too.
