One of Robin Cohen’s dogs was winning a national championship in Florida on Sunday, while another was wandering lost in Everett after being attacked by a German shepherd.
Cohen’s papillon Tigger placed first in the American Kennel Club’s agility competition Sunday. Cohen and her husband, Robin Kietke of Woodinville, left their other papillon, Phoenix, with a friend who lives near Madison Street and Beverly Lane in Everett.
Thursday morning, Phoenix got out of the house, was attacked by the bigger dog, slipped his collar and ran off, Cohen said. He was last seen west of Evergreen Way near Lower Ridge Road and Upper Ridge Road.
Papillons are small, longhaired dogs with bushy tails and large, fringed ears reminiscent of butterfly wings. Phoenix is brown and white. He is male, has a microchip and has not been neutered. Anyone with information is asked to call 206-718-2083. A reward is being offered.
Volunteer Expo calls for exhibitors
It’s time for exhibitors to register for the annual Volunteer Expo, which will be at Everett Mall March 4. Nonprofit groups should register by Friday. Registration forms are available at the United Way of Snohomish County Web site, uwsc.org, or by calling 425-921-3459.
At the expo, volunteers can learn about working with young people, the elderly, the environment, the disabled and animals.
Langley once was steered by women
Margaret Robe Summitt will discuss the 1919 feminist upset election of Langley’s city government at the South Whidbey Historical Society’s next “Then and Now” meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1508 E. Highway 525 in Freeland.
Summitt will talk about how women’s suffrage and Prohibition combined to seat perhaps the first entirely female mayor and city council in the nation, as the election followed on the heels of the ratification of the national women’s right-to-vote amendment.
A $2 donation is requested.
