LAKE STEVENS – A Lake Stevens man was injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident Sunday and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The accident occurred about 11:10 a.m. on a U.S. Forest Service road between Lake Stevens and Spada Lake. The man, riding a quad vehicle, missed a turn, ran off the shoulder of the road, through some trees and then plunged over a 12-foot bank and into the water, said Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy Rich Niebusch, a sheriff’s spokesman. Speed was considered a factor in the crash, he said.

The man, 27, struck his head on a partially-submerged rock and appeared to be paralyzed from the shoulders down, Niebusch said. His injuries were considered life-threatening. No other details were available.

Machias: Crash victim airlifted to hospital

One of four people involved in a traffic accident Sunday was severely injured and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy Rich Niebusch said.

The crash occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of 171st Avenue SE. A car with two men in the front seat and two women in the back ran through a stop sign at Dubuque Road, then left the road and struck a power pole, snapping the pole in half, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Rich Niebusch said.

The crash temporarily knocked out power to 250 customers.

The man who was driving and the two women were transported to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, he said.

All four people were in their early 20s. The man in the front passenger seat suffered severe injuries and multiple broken bones, he said.

Excessive speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, Niebusch said.

No other details were available Sunday night.

Snohomish: Boat hits swimmer in lake

A boat on Lake Roesiger ran over a man swimming in the water Sunday. The victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries, said Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy Rich Niebusch, a sheriff’s spokesman.

The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. The boat’s propeller struck the man three times, and one of the strikes may have cut an artery in one leg, Niebusch said.

The accident is under investigation, he said.

Wenatchee: Area crews respond to wildfire

State officials called for mobilization of emergency fire crews Sunday evening for a wildfire burning at Lake Wenatchee on Dirty Face Mountain, Snohomish County Fire District 22 Chief Travis Hots said. The fire had burned about 300 acres and threatened up to 200 homes.

Fourteen firefighters and engines from Snohomish County’s Arlington Heights (District 21), Getchell (District 22), Gold Bar (District 26), and Lake Roesiger (District 16) were deployed to protect homes and other buildings, including one who will serve as a division supervisor. In addition, a Mount Vernon team leader, an engine and crew were dispatched.

“This is the second or third state mobilization that most of these districts have been on this week,” Hots said. Some of those heading over Sunday recently returned from a deployment in Lincoln County.
