Front Porch: Snohomish County budget forum

Published 8:01 pm Monday, October 19, 2015

The Snohomish County Council has scheduled a forum on Wednesday evening to discuss the 2016 county budget.

The meeting gives taxpayers a chance to talk directly to elected officials about government spending priorities. It’s set for 6:30 p.m. on the eighth floor of the Robert Drewel Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The council plans to vote on a final budget at 10:30 p.m. Nov. 23.

County Executive John Lovick released a $228 million proposed operating budget in September.

Auction to support homeless students: The Port Susan Middle School Builders Club, a branch of the Kiwanis Club, is hosting a silent auction Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the middle school’s cafeteria. Funds raised at the auction are for grocery cards and bus passes for students in the Stanwood-Camano School District who are homeless. Items available include gift cards and goody baskets from local businesses along with vouchers for services. The school is at 7506 267th Place NW. Water service slow down in Snohomish: The city of Everett is constructing improvements to a water transmission main that requires a temporary shutdown at 8 p.m. Wednesday until noon Friday.

The shutdown will primarily affect customers in the northern part of Snohomish. Pressure will be reduced and the supply will be limited. Snohomish is asking everyone to conserve water consumption during 40-hour shutdown.

People will likely see discoloration or sediment in the water. If this happens once the main is back in service, turn cold water on in the bathtub of faucet farthest from the water connection and allow the water to run until it is clear.

If you experience a total loss of water supply, 425-328-0068 or 425-328-0059.
