Board should be ashamed of itself

I am a Marysville resident and lived through the long teacher strike this fall. I followed the details of the strike very closely as it affected my household as well as all of my neighbors.

I have always felt that teachers like any of the rest of us in the workforce have to shop around for their jobs. They have to choose a district that pays what they need and if Marysville promised to pay above the state minimum, the district should be held to its word. I can understand that in hard times they may not be able to add to the amount they already pay, but they should certainly not take money away from people they have already hired.

There were times during the strike that I felt like maybe the district took on more than it could handle financially and that everyone may have to share the burden to make ends meet. But after what happened at the recent board meeting I believe 100 percent that the strike was not a teachers’ strike! It was a school board and superintendent being selfish and not handling the voters’ money as they should!

The vote was handled in the most underhanded way possible. All involved should be ashamed of themselves. They have proven that the teachers are not at fault. These high and mighty officials need to look in the mirror to see who is at fault for the strike, for the budget issues they have and the loss of student enrollment in Marysville.
