Quilts return to Cama Beach

Published 1:35 pm Thursday, July 18, 2013

The beach at Cama Beach State Park will sport about 50 quilts on July 27. No, not for sun-bathers, but for the fourth annual Quilts on the Beach event.

Many of the quilts and smaller quilted items will be for sale, and you can purchase raffle tickets for this year’s queen-size quilt donated to the Cama Beach Foundation by the quilters. Proceeds from the sales support educational activities at the park.

The day’s activities include events at the Cama Center: sewing quilt blocks, flower pounding and a bed-turning of antique quilts. For the unitiated, a bed-turning is where the quilts are displayed, turned back one at a time for viewing, and a quilter describes each quilt.

Admission is free but visitors must each buy a Discover Pass at the state park Welcome Center for parking. The Cama Cafe will be open for breakfast and lunch.

Quilts on the Beach goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27. Cama Beach State Park is at 1880 S. West Camano Drive, Camano Island. For more information contact Pam at 360-387-4550.
