‘White sale’ was beginning of targeted retail days

On your Monday opinion page you note the overuse and misuse of the English language when it comes to holiday advertising and special days like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and others. You missed the big one though. The one that started it all. The original of the originals: The January White sale. First introduced in 1878 by Philadelphia department store owner John Wanamaker. The January White sale is not still going strong, but still going. The great thing about this event, is you didn’t have to get up at 3 a.m. and then sit outside a merchant’s door freezing to death. You had a month to shop the bargains, no fights broke out and no one got hurt.
