MONROE — A Monroe woman died in a car wreck while driving to Washington State University in Pullman on Sunday.
Rachel Pomeroy, 20, was headed east around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 26 in eastern Washington. Her car and a westbound Ford Explorer collided head-on west of Washtucna, according to a Washington State Patrol memo.
The westbound driver, a 60-year-old Bothell man, was not injured, according to the memo.
Both vehicles were totaled.
The State Patrol closed the highway for three hours.
Spring semester at WSU began Monday. Students were returning to school over the weekend.
Another WSU student died Saturday in a nine-car pileup along I-90 just west of Cle Elum. Several others were injured in the collisions.
Recent snow storms have left roads in central and eastern Washington slick.
