Everett Silvertips fans could be in for a special treat this weekend.
The Tips have called up Ethan Browne, their first-round pick in May’s WHL bantam draft from the Sherwood Park Kings of the Alberta Midget Hockey League.
Browne is on the roster as an “affiliate player” – meaning he’s eligible to play in six games with the Tips prior to the end of his midget season. While that doesn’t necessarily mean he will play tonight against the Seattle Thunderbirds, it seems likely he will see the ice at some point this weekend.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward has seven goals and 16 assists in 23 games this season for the Kings. He also helped Team Alberta win the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup in October when he had three points in four tournament games.

Browne skated in camp with the Silvertips and seemed to grow more comfortable as the week progressed. He scored the game-winning goal in the intrasquad Volunteer Cup’s “bronze medal” game and had a goal the next day in the annual Green vs. Grey Game that concludes the week of training camp.
The Alberta native is expected to be a big part of Everett’s offensive future in the coming seasons and those expectations may only increase after the Tips traded away rookie forward Brett Kemp earlier this month as part of the deal that netted them overage defenseman Aaron Irving from the Edmonton Oil Kings.
A prolific goal scorer at lower levels, Browne had 39 goals and 38 assists in 36 games last season for the Sherwood Park Flyers bantam AAA team of the AMBHL to finish second in the league in goals and points. He also added 10 goals and 13 assists in 10 playoff games.
The Tips took him 14th overall and wasted little time in signing him as head coach Kevin Constantine flew to Edmonton in June to get Browne’s signature.
Now Browne, as well as Tips fans, eagerly await a debut that could come as soon as tonight.
