HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Everett AquaSox scored six runs in the first inning Monday night and that proved to be the difference in an 8-4 Northwest League victory over the Hillsboro Hops.
The win snapped Everett’s four-game losing streak.
David Banuelos delivered the big hit in Everett’s six-run first inning, blasting a three-run homer off Hillsboro starting pitcher Mitchell Aker.
It was Banuelos’ first home run of the season.
The AquaSox homered in each of the first three innings.
Brayan Hernandez hit a solo shot in the second, and Eugene Helder added another solo homer in the third to give Everett an 8-0 lead.
Winning pitcher Andres Torres improved his season record to 3-0. He allowed just three hits and one run over six innings.
Aker (0-4) took the loss. He gave up eight runs and seven hits in two-plus innings. Just three of the runs he allowed were earned.
Helder and Greifer Andrade each had two hits for the AquaSox.
Billy Endris, the Hops’ No. 9 hitter, homered and singled. He was the only Hillsboro player with more than one hit.
The game marked the 10th and final meeting of the season between the two teams. Hillsboro won the season series 7-3.
Everett returns home tonight to open a two-game series against Tri-City. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.
