Emeralds walk off with win, send Sox to 4th straight defeat

EUGENE, Ore. — The Everett AquaSox built an early lead, but the Eugene Emeralds came back to win 5-4 Monday before 4,534 fans at PK Park.
Jhonny Bethencourt scored all the way from first base on a two-out bloop single by Rafael Narea off Everett reliever Wyatt Mills (0-1) in the bottom of the ninth.
It was the fourth straight loss for Everett (12-20). Eugene improved to 19-13.
The final 14 AquaSox were retired in order as Eugene relievers Jhon Romero and Luis Aquino (1-0) combined for four scoreless innings in relief of starter Javier Assad.
Randy Bell started for Everett as part of a piggy-back situation with Michael Suarez. Bell struck out one and allowed a run on three hits in two innings before yielding for Suarez.
Suarez fanned seven, but also allowed seven hits and three runs in 42/3 innings.
The big inning came in the fifth when a Zach Davis RBI infield single and an Aramis Ademan two-run homer turned a 4-1 Everett lead into a 4-4 tie.
That’s how it remained until the bottom of the ninth.
The Frogs took the initial lead in the second. Johnny Adams led off with a long home run to left field. Onil Pena and David Banuelos followed with singles, and Brayan Hernandez chased them both home with an RBI triple to left to give Everett a 3-0 lead.
The Emeralds got one back in the bottom of the frame when Brandon Hughes doubled and scored on a groundout.
Pena hit his third homer of the season with one out in the fourth to push Everett’s lead to 4-1.
That set up a big fifth inning for the Emeralds.
Davis finished with three hits while Ademan, Gustavo Polanco and Narea each had a pair for Eugene.
Pena and Hernandez each had a pair of hits.
The series continues tonight at 7:05 p.m.
