Arlington: Apply for vacant council seat

Arlington city officials are accepting applications from residents interested in filling the vacant seat on the City Council following the death of Councilman Scott Solla earlier this month.

People have until 5 p.m. Nov. 10 to apply. Appl

ications are available on the city’s website, www.arlingtonwa.gov, at City Hall or by calling the mayor’s office at 360-403-3441.

Interviews are scheduled for Nov. 16. The City Council is expected to make a selection no later than Nov. 28.

icken dinner at senior center Sunday

Stillaguamish Senior Center offers its monthly chicken dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

The menu includes baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw and a roll.

Cost is $8 or $7 for seniors and $5 for children age 12 and younger.

Proceeds benefit senior activities.

Darrington: Business association to meet

Darrington Area Business Association is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cascade Senior Center, 1115 Darrington St. The public is encouraged to attend.

Everett: Help for kids with mental illnesses

A series of six weekly classes to help family members and friends of children who are living with a mental illness is being offered by the Snohomish County affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness beginning on Sept. 29.

The classes are scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Everett.

The free course is taught by a team of trained NAMI volunteers who know what it’s like to have a loved one struggling with brain disorders, such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, panic and obsessive compulsive disorders, and brain and addictive problems.

Registration is required. Classes are limited to 25 people.

Marysville: Find a dog for your family

A class to help families choose, raise and train a dog is scheduled Oct. 8 through Marysville Parks and Recreation.

Jennifer Ward plans to instruct the “Mom! Can We Get A Dog?” class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Jennings Barn, 6915 Armar Road.

Discussions about the responsibility of owning a dog, picking a breed, where to get a dog, veterinarian expenses, training and overall care are set to be part of the class.

The class costs $25 for a family of up to five people and is not for children under the age of four. Jennifer Ward is the co-director of Scrub-A-Mutt, a nonprofit dedicated to raising money for dog rescue groups.

Stanwood: New foundation director

Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation has a new executive director, Tracy Ulrich.

Former executive director Theresa Metzger remains on the foundation’s board and is working to bring the YMCA to Stanwood. Ulrich serves on the Stanwood Camano Food Bank board of directors and is the long time coordinator of the food bank’s Christmas House.
