Ex-mayor of Granite Falls sentenced to three months in jail for dealing pot

EVERETT — A former Granite Falls mayor can serve his sentence on work release for dealing marijuana.

Floyd “Butch” DeRosia was sentenced Thursday to three months in jail. A Snohomish County jury last month convicted DeRosia of two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.

He faced up to six months in jail.

Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Halley Hupp recommended a four-month sentence.

Superior Court Richard Okrent on Thursday knocked a month off the recommendation and agreed to let DeRosia serve his time on work release.

DeRosia has no prior felony history.

DeRosia was among more than a dozen people arrested last year as part of a two-year investigation into drug trafficking in Granite Falls. City officers worked undercover with detectives from the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force and confidential informants.

DeRosia was accused of selling marijuana on two different occasions to undercover officers.

DeRosia served as mayor for two years until resigning in 2003 amid harassment allegations.
