Change in parking enforcement in Mukilteo

MUKILTEO — Parking enforcement in Mukilteo is shifting focus.
Mukilteo police want to address people’s concerns over parking at Lighthouse Park, downtown business areas and commuter-permit areas, Police Chief Rex Caldwell said.
Police hope better enforcement will reduce illegal parking, he said. People who are parking illegally in those areas are causing unnecessary headaches for others.
As of May 14, the parking enforcement officer’s hours will change, Caldwell said. The new schedule is meant to be a better fit for the summer season.
The officer will be working from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday.
The schedule is flexible if issues arise, Caldwell said. Other hours will be covered by on-duty patrol officers.
The parking enforcement officer used to work mostly day shifts during weekdays and split the time between parking enforcement and animal control calls, he said.
