A Monroe High School student has two new short films screening at upcoming Seattle film festivals. Todd Kaumans’ film “War Torn” was chosen from 225 entries to the 2011 National Film Festival for Talented Youth.
The aspiring filmmaker, 17, also has a film, “The Homefront” in the 2011 Seattle True Independent Film Festival.
“What is significant about these two selections is that I’ve created two different films that have both found major success at two different festivals,” Kaumans said in an email promoting the films.
It’ll be Kaumans’ second time at the youth film festival. Last year, he showed his eight-minute movie “The Trump Card.”
“War Torn” is scheduled to screen with other shorts at 6:30p.m. May 1 at the SIFF Cinema in the basement of McCaw Hall, 321 Mercer St., Seattle. Tickets start at $10.
The festival’s website describes the movie as “Two brothers (who) are caught up in World War II in Europe as they are separated from their family. When disaster strikes, they must each find their way to safety.”
“The Homefront” is the most professional movie Kaumans has made, he said. He created it to enter film festivals and said he was pleased to earn a spot in one of Seattle’s premier independent movie-maker festivals. The Seattle True Independent Film Festival starts June 3. The schedule hasn’t been released.
