Finland and the NCAA tournament

Published 9:06 am Thursday, March 17, 2011

This year the Herald did something a little different with the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, which began this morning. We had several local sports personalities fill out brackets for us, and their progress can be followed online.

The Silvertips representative is none other than defenseman Rasmus Rissanen. Yep, the guy from Finland. And he is as schooled in NCAA basketball as you’d expect — this is the first time he’s ever filled out an NCAA bracket. As the beginner — and as a regular participant in NCAA pools I know how these things work — I fully expect Rissanen to win.

Rissanen’s progress, as well as that of Mariners pitcher Shawn Kelley, Sounders forward Steve Zakuani, Stealth transition player Paul Rabil and CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist (did you know he lived in Everett for eight years?) can be followed on out website.
