Local 9/11 observances

Some local communities offer ceremonies or places to come to remember the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, most at the World Trade Center in New York.

Arlington: A 9/11 Memorial is open to the public daily at Arlington Firehouse 46, 137 N Macleod Ave. A remembrance ceremony is at 5 p.m. Monday.

Edmonds: A ceremony is set for 9:11 a.m. Monday at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in front of Fire Station 17, 275 Sixth Ave. N. The park features a 1-ton beam recovered from the collapsed World Trade Center. The ceremony is hosted by International Association of Fire Firefighters Local 1828, representing employees of Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Marysville: A ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St., hosted by Marysville firefighters and police officers. The ceremony also will remember Fire Lt. Jeff Thornton, who died of cancer the same day.

Everett mayor hopefuls speak

A forum for candidates for Everett mayor is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Middle School, 7621 Beverly Lane. Sponsors include a number of neighborhood organizations. The event is expected to be livestreamed on the Everett Public Library’s Facebook page.

WAYS TO HELP

Supplies needed for kids program

The Mukilteo YMCA and Casino Road Community Center are starting a Grow 60 program. The new program will expose kids to outdoors skills, STEM topics and the arts.

Some donations that will help the kids get started:

Books on chess (basics and strategy, used or new)

15 folding chairs (good condition, used or new)

Four tables with folding legs (lightweight and sturdy, used or new)

Books for school-age kids to high-schoolers

Art supplies in good condition that are needed: Mod Podge, water color paper, water color sets (20), white card stock or thick paper, oil pastel sets (20), tempera paint (red, blue, yellow), one box of fine-point black Sharpies, black construction paper, and construction paper in multiple colors.

Donations can be dropped off at the Mukilteo YMCA, 10601 47th Place W.

Recovery Cafe fundraiser

Everett Recovery Cafe plans a fundraiser from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 23. Reservations are required; contact reservations@everettrecoverycafe.org.

The Cafe, at 2212 Broadway, is a safe spot for people living with mental health issues or aiming to break the cycle of addiction and homelessness. The public is welcome to learn more at Coffee Hour tours, held 9 a.m. third Tuesdays, by reservation.
