Arlington: Ramp work on I-5 finished
The new and improved onramps and offramps to and from I-5 at Highway 531 (172nd Street NE) have been completed ahead of schedule, but the rest of the freeway improvement project at the Smokey Point interchange probably won’t be wrapped up now until the summer.
State Department of Transportation officials, elected representatives and others gathered recently to celebrate the opening of the ramps and to dedicate the overpass in honor of the late Oliver “Punks” Smith. Smith was a longtime Arlington city councilman who helped lead the effort to reduce congestion at the busy interchange.
The event was attended by Smith’s children and siblings.
Marysville: High school plans parade
The public is invited to Marysville-Pilchuck High School’s Naval Junior Officers Training Corps Tomahawk Company annual evening parade on Dec. 1.
The event is scheduled for 6:55 p.m. in the Marysville-Pilchuck High School gym, 5611 108th St. NE. Rear Admiral James Symonds, Navy Region Northwest Commander, is the reviewing officer. Navy Band Northwest is scheduled to provide music for the event.
During this past school year, Tomahawk Company received recognition from the Commander Naval Education and Training Command for the 11th consecutive year, according to Ed Dawson, Naval science instructor at the high school.
This year, the NJROTC logged more than 1,100 community service hours and collected more than 100 pairs of eyeglasses for the Marysville Lion’s Club Recycle for Sight program, Dawson said.
Mukilteo: Gulch group plans auction
An auction to benefit the nonprofit Japanese Gulch Group will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo.
Admission is $20 and includes beverages and desserts.

Stanwood: Adults can help at teen center
Stanwood Camano Resource Center and Davis Place, an after-school destination for teens, needs adult volunteers for a variety of positions.
People who enjoy working with teens can work in the center’s bookstore or help with special events. Volunteers are needed for shifts of two to four hours a week.
