EVENTS
Return of the Salmon celebration
All are invited to Sultan on Saturday to celebrate the sixth annual Return of the Salmon festival. Events are at Osprey Park, 801 First St., from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free, and there is a covered area so it is rain or shine.
The festival honors Chief T’seul-Ted, believed to be the namesake of Sultan, and celebrates the salmon who left local rivers as fingerlings and are returning as adults to spawn. The event includes the fourth annual 5K Salmon Run at 10 a.m. The entry fee for the run is $20.
The rest of the event includes a welcome ceremony, riverside tours and horse-drawn wagon rides to the Sultan High School salmon hatchery. Guests include musicians, storytellers and a master cedar weaver.

HEADS UP
Downgraded burn ban: The Snohomish County Fire Marshal lifted a ban Wednesday prohibiting recreational fires. The restrictions were downgraded after rain storms moved through the county. However, the outdoor burn ban remains in effect. All permits, including ones issued for agricultural burning, remain suspended.
The state Department of Natural Resources also eased their restrictions, and now allows recreational burning in designated fire pits.
Those who live within a city can check with their local fire department for updated information.
