Learn to manage alder trees

Washington State University Extension is putting on a workshop to teach people about managing red alder trees, which can quickly become diseased and fall apart. The two-day workshop is Oct. 6 and 7 at Weston High School in Arlington.

Alder is an important species near streams. The workshop includes classroom sessions and a field tour. Experts will talk about managing over-mature or dying trees, critical areas, wildlife management and more. The cost of the workshop is $60 per person or $100 per pair if registered before Sept. 29. It goes up after, and registration closes Oct. 4. The cost includes a lunch and dinner.
