Ground breaking for walking bridge
A ground-breaking ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. today at the Grand Avenue park pedestrian bridge. The location is the north end of the park, near 16th Street. Carpooling is encouraged.
Construction on the park side is scheduled to begin this week and could wrap up next year. The walkway is part of a larger project to replace aging pipes. It will provide access to the waterfront.

Documents that changed the world
The University of Washington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers a free presentation on “Documents that Changed the World” with Joseph Janes, a UW associate professor, 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo.

Bat Lady at Stream Center
The Bat Lady will be at the Adopt A Stream Foundation’s Northwest Stream Center at 7 p.m. Friday in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Barbara Ogaard rehabilitates injured bats for the Sarvey Wildlife Center and is a researcher for Bat’s Northwest. Registration is required. Cost is $5 for Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 non-members.

Thrift store could use help
Community Thrift of Arlington seeks volunteers. The thrift store, operated by Quilceda Community Services, provides a work site for special needs adults learning job skills as well as general operating funds for the nonprofit. The store, open Mondays to Saturdays at 604 E Gilman Ave., sells clothing, household goods, furniture and seasonal items.

Fix bikes for kids
Sharing Wheels kicks off its regular volunteer work parties to clean and fix bicycles to give to children served by Christmas House. Work parties are held 6 to 9 p.m. every other Thursday, Oct. 26, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16, at 2531 Broadway in Everett. Sunday work parties are set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 15, Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19.

An annual multilingual job fair from Workforce Snohomish is set for 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Jackson Conference Center at Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St. Over 40 employers seeking non-native English speaking applicants.
