Hearing loss talk
Bill Collison, of the Hearing Loss Association of America, will discuss solutions for the hearing impaired, while his wife, Aundie, speaks on the impact of hearing loss on spouses and families, 2 p.m. Friday at the Warm Beach Senior Community Beachwood Lounge, 20420 Marine Drive, Stanwood.

Festival of Bands
The 30th annual Puget Sound Festival of Bands, a Cascade High School Band and Color Guard Boosters event, takes place Oct. 21 at Everett Memorial Stadium. Thousands of high school students and spectators converge for this marching band extravaganza. Tickets are $15; $9 seniors, military and college students; $7 youth ages 6-18; and $40 per family of four.

Goblin Splash party
The Goblin Splash is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Forest Park Swim Center, 802 E Mukilteo Blvd. The Everett Parks and Recreation event invites families to come in costume for games and prizes and to enjoy swim time. Pay regular admission to boost the park scholarship fund, or bring a canned food donation for the food bank.

Halloween hats
The next Tween STEAM event will engineer Halloween hats from recycled materials, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW.

Teen Night returns
Teens interested in art are invited to the next Teen Night event, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Schack Art Center, 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Activities include up to four art projects with professional teaching artists. All events are free and intended for ages 13-18.

WAYS TO HELP
Socktoberfest is here
The Emmaus Community, a mission arm of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Everett, has launched its annual Socktoberfest donation drive. Donate new pairs of adult-size socks through October at collection bins around Everett, or at the church at 215 Mukilteo Blvd. Socks will be distributed to the homeless at a later event. Other ways to help are to host a sock bin at your business or place of worship, donate money for the purchase of socks or to help collect donations. Details are at emmauscommunity.wordpress.com.

Sew for Safe Place
This month’s Sew Thoughtful charitable sewing project by the Snohomish County Clothing and Textile Advisors is sewing tote bags for young children served at Safe Place. The work party is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave. W, Lynnwood. Bring your machine, thread and other tools, and your own lunch. Kits provided. Note that Sew Thoughtful projects are now held the third Thursday of each month.
