Repairing damaged I-90 overpass in Issaquah to cost $1.2M

ISSAQUAH — Washington state Transportation Department bridge engineers have decided to replace an Interstate 90 overpass girder in Issaquah that was damaged last month when a too-tall garbage truck hit the overpass. The truck punched a large hole in one girder.

Transportation Department official Dave McCormick says it’s expected to cost $1.2 million to replace the girder on the Front Street overpass. Construction is to start later this year.

Until the overpass is fixed, eastbound large trucks on I-90 are asked to use the left two lanes at that spot as a safety precaution.

The Transportation Department is trying to recover the $1.2 million from the garbage company’s insurer. For the moment, emergency federal money will be used to proceed with the repairs.
