SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners traded minor-league catcher David Banuelos to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for $1 million in international slot money, the team announced Wednesday evening.
Banuelos, 21, hit .236 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 36 games with the Everett AquaSox after being selected by the Mariners in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB draft.
Seattle is reported to be one of seven finalists for Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani and now has just over $2.55 million to offer, second most of the seven clubs behind the Texas Rangers ($3.53 million), according to MLB.com.
