Hear our music pioneers
The University of Washington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers a free presentation on “Washington’s Music Pioneers,” noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. What do Bing, Jimi, and Kurt have in common? Speaker Amanda Wilde will present their music that spans generations.
Bring a sack lunch if desired.

New drop-in play group
A Kaleidoscope Play & Learn group meets 10:30 a.m. to noon Mondays, starting Jan. 8, in the large community room at Mill Creek City Hall North, 15720 Main St. This is a free drop-in play group for parents with children ages birth to 5. It’s offered through the Everett School District’s early learning program and meets during the school year.
It joins a Kaleidoscope group that meets 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
The groups help young children learn how to interact with others and provide a first step for helping prepare children for school. Parents can learn tips for turning everyday activities, like grocery shopping, into learning opportunities. The facilitated time includes play, art, stories, songs and more.

Library volunteer rally
Lake Stevens Library YES is holding a rally for volunteers. A bond is set to go to voters in February. Volunteers are needed for door belling, phone calls and shifts at local stores. The rally at 10 a.m. Saturday at 1808 Main St.

Dedicate park additions
Monroe dedicates new exercise stations at 4 p.m. Jan. 11 at Skykomish River Park, 413 Sky River Parkway. The four basic trailside exercise stations are installed along the walking trail. The project was paid for with a Snohomish County grant through a partnership between the city and the Monroe Boys & Girls Club.

Kids can get a taste of show biz
Show Biz Kids 4-H Club meets next 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and every second Tuesday, at the Horseshoe Grange, 16424 Broadway Ave., Snohomish. Students in grades K-12 explore various areas of performing arts.

Women who are new to the area or who would like to meet new friends are invited to join the Everett Area Newcomers Club. Club events include a luncheon on Jan. 11 and a coffee social on Jan. 18.

Bat Night in Everett
The Pilchuck Audubon Society meets next at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 at Everett Firefighter’s Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave. After finishing two Christmas bird counts in December, the club begins the new year with a new subject: bats. Ruth Milner, biologist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, discusses white nose bat syndrome and more.
