BLOG: Carter Hart, Matt Fonteyne sweep WHL monthly awards

Two weeks ago Carter Hart and Matt Fonteyne swept the WHL weekly awards.

On Thursday the league announced the same duo took home the monthly honors.

It’s becoming routine for Hart, who has won the award three straight months and has been goaltender of the week five times this season.

Everett’s star netminder finished January 6-1-0-1 with a 1.97 goals-against average, a .934 save percentage and one shutout.

Hart also backstopped Team Canada to the gold medal at the World Junior Championship and remains one shutout short of tying Tyson Sexmith’s WHL career record of 26.

It’s also a tremendous honor for Fonteyne, Everett’s overage co-captain who last week became the first Tip since Kohl Bauml in 2014-15 to score 30 goals in a season. Moreover, Fonteyne still has 20 games to add to that total.

Fonteyne scored 12 goals and added 13 assists in 13 games as the Tips finished January with a 9-3-0-1 record.

The Tips play a home-and-home series with Kelowna this weekend. The teams are in Kelowna Friday and back at Angel of the Winds Arena Saturday.
