Dewey Decimal delicious
This tastes so 641 … or maybe 676. Definitely 793.
Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to compete in a Dewey Decimal Cupcake Challenge, 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Teens will get a blank cupcake and a range of the Dewey Decimal System, then be challenged to decorate the cupcake using inspiration from that section of the library. Will it be 510 (math)? Or maybe 780 (music) or 950 (Asian history)? Snacks provided (duh), and prizes, too.

A salmon’s thoughts about climate
The University of Washington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers a free presentation on “Thinking Like a Salmon: Will Washington State in the Future be a Happy Home?” noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Climatologist Nick Bond discusses “the Blob” and what to expect of the climate in our area.
Bring a sack lunch if desired.

Fold origami valentines
Stanwood Library’s Origami Cool Zone takes on valentine hearts and kissing cranes at the next meet-up, 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Learn new folds and share your expertise. Materials provided. All ages are welcome. The library is at 9701 271st St. NW.

Wheat weaving program
Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge 26 hosts a wheat weaving program at 9:45 a.m. Feb. 17 at Normanna Lodge, 2725 Oakes Ave., Everett. Guests, both women and men, are welcome at this free program. Jean Whipple, a professional wheat weaver from Olympia, will guide participants through this Scandinavian tradition that took leftover stalks of wheat at harvest time, and turned them into beautiful artwork. Each guest is expected to have an item to take home by the end of the activity. Materials will be provided. Whipple also will have some of her own work on hand for sale.

Edmonds picnic shelters up for grabs
Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services will begin taking reservations for picnic shelters for the 2018 season at 9 a.m. Monday in person at the Frances Anderson Center (700 Main St.) or 9 a.m. Tuesday by phone at 425-771-0230. Shelters can be rented from April 1 through Sept. 30; costs vary.

MLT water open house
Residents of Mountlake Terrace are invited to attend an open house on the city’s updated “Water System Comprehensive Plan,” 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the City Council chambers, 6100 219th St. SW, Suite 220. Helping customers use water efficiently is part of the plan.
