Mariners’ Cano gives Everett football team a surprise visit

The Everett High School football team got a surprise visit recently from one of Seattle’s biggest superstars.
When the Seagulls players went to grab water during a voluntary conditioning workout Aug. 9 at Everett Memorial Stadium, Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano — in Everett for the first day of a three-game rehab stint with the Class A Everett AquaSox — spotted the players while at the AquaSox’ neighboring facility and decided to drop by.
“Stunned,” Seagulls coach David Coldiron said of his player’s reaction to Cano’s apperance. “It was really impromptu. We as coaches didn’t say anything to him (before hand).”
Cano came down and spoke to the players about the importance of listening to their coaches, always working hard for their goals and to never give up on your dreams.

“I gotta give Mr. Cano 100 percent of the credit,” Coldiron said. “The kids were just so surprised about how cool that was for him to take the time and come out and say ‘hi’ to them and give them encouragement.”
