The Glacier Peak cross country team made a success-filled trip to Hawaii two weekends ago.

The Grizzlies placed second in both the boys and girls team standings at the 20th annual Iolani Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 15 at Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu.

Glacier Peak senior Riley McDowell placed fourth out of 209 runners in the boys 5,000-meter race, posting a time of 15 minutes, 36.92 seconds that currently ranks fifth in Washington state’s 4A classification this season.

Tyler Tanta, a senior, took sixth place (16:01.46) and junior Nathan Tastad placed eighth (16:04.24) to give the Grizzlies three top-10 finishers in the race, which primarily included teams from Hawaii and California.

On the girls side, Glacier Peak junior Aviry Stratton took fifth place (18:29.33) and senior Samantha Boyle placed sixth (18:35.74) out of 166 runners.

Stratton’s personal-best time of 18:28.5 in Saturday’s Bellevue Cross Country Invitational currently ranks second in 4A. The time Boyle ran in Oahu ranks third in 4A.
