An exercise may intermittently disrupt entrance to Naval Station Everett between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
People who are nearby could hear blank gunshots, sirens and loudspeaker announcements. There also might be more security than usual at the waterfront.

Lakewood school board opening
Another Lakewood School District board member has resigned and a replacement is being sought. Gregory Jensen resigned effective Jan. 16. He had been a board member since 2003. Jeremy Toponce just took over recently for Oscar Escalante, who resigned in October.
Anyone interested in the Director District 4 position may find an application at www.lwsd.wednet.edu.
Applications will be accepted through Feb. 26. Interviews with the board will be March 6. The person selected will serve through the remainder of that term, which is November. Candidates who file for the position in May will run for the seat in November.

Chili cookoff for charity
A Chili and Chowder Cookoff to support the Cascade Valley Health Foundation’s efforts in the Stillaguamish Valley will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 2 at Fire Station 46, 137 N. MacLeod Ave. Cost to attend is $10 for 10 tastes. Hot dogs, soda, water and coffee also will be available.

Walk at Camano Ridge Forest Preserve
Friends of Camano Island Parks is offering a guided walk at Camano Ridge Forest Preserve on Feb. 2. The trip is about 2.4 miles and will include the East and West Loop trails and the Wetland Trail. The walk, which is level with a few ups and downs, will take around two hours. Attendees are asked to wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes — the walk will take place rain or shine. Dogs are not allowed at the event, which will begin at 9:50 a.m. at the Camano Ridge preserve’s west entrance parking lot on the east side of Camano Ridge Road.

Free tax help
The United Way is offering free tax filing help to students and non-students on the University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College campus. These sessions will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays through April 16 in Founders Hall UW1-103. The help will be provided by IRS-certified volunteers. The service is free. There are no appointments. It will be walk-in based on a first come, first served basis.
The free service is for taxpayers who have an income of $66,000 or less.
