Conservation District hiring veterans

The Snohomish Conservation District is hiring U.S. military veterans for a field crew. Those hired will work with landowners on stormwater resource concerns within urban and residential areas of Snohomish County and Camano Island. They will also do restoration work, planting and maintenance in other rural areas.

Everybody’s Closet is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. Gently used (and sometimes new) clothing is made available for men, women and children at this free exchange. Some household items are available. Snacks and coffee will be served. All are welcome. Co-sponsors are the Senior Center Foundation, YWCA, Volunteers of America and Advent Lutheran Church.

Butterfly gardening

Tuskegee Airmen

Historian and writer Guy Franklin talks about the Tuskegee Airmen, 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, Paine Field, 3407 109th St. SW.

Learn how a group of African-American pilots overcame racist opposition to become one of the finest U.S. fighter groups in WWII. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for youth and children; museum members free.

Yum! Pancake breakfasts

Lake Stevens: A Norwegian pancake breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 16 (third Saturday, September to May) at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th Ave. NE. Cost is $6; children under age 5 are free.

Monroe: 8 to 10 a.m. Feb. 16 (third Saturday) at the Monroe Community Senior Center, 276 Sky River Parkway. Pancakes or French toast, eggs, ham or sausage, beverages. Cost is $5, $3 under age 12.

Monroe VFW Post 7511: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 16, Cascade Community Church, 14377 Fryelands Blvd. SE.

Bothell: 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 16 (first and third Saturdays) at the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E Riverside Drive. Pancakes, eggs, ham (first Saturday) or sausage (third Saturday), coffee or tea, and orange juice. Cost is $5.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), sponsored by Catholic Community Services, seeks people 55 and older for volunteer positions, such as drivers, peer-to-peer counselors, student mentors, food bank workers and more. Volunteer locations are across the county with varying days and commitment times.
