Art contest
The Mukilteo Art Contest encourages young people to explore their artistic talents. Students in grades K-12 from the Seattle area can enter the contest and win up to $100.
A dozen winners will be chosen, three from each category: Junior: K-4, non-photographic. Intermediate: grades 5-8, non-photographic. High school: non-photographic. Digital: all ages, photographic.
Deadline is Feb. 28.

Take a hike
Explore Cama Beach State Park with Friends of Camano Island Parks on a guided walk March 2. Meet at 9:50 a.m. at Dry Lake Road and Ivy Way, 1.4 miles from Elger Bay Road. Walk from Cama trailhead parking to the south beach of Camano Island State Park. Downhill and level terrain with great views, the walk is about 3.3 miles one way.
A shuttle is available for the return trip. The two-hour walk takes place rain or shine. Wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. Access Dry Lake Road from Elger Bay Road north of Elger Bay Elementary School. Parking is on the Ivy Way cul-de-sac.
Dogs are not allowed. Trail booklets available for $1 donation.

VOLUNTEER
Charitable sewing projects
Sewers gather two Saturdays a month at an Everett church to work on charitable projects. Help make hospital gowns and butterfly pillows for hospitals and care facilities at 9 a.m. second Saturdays. Help make reusable personal sanitary kits for girls in underserved countries through Days for Girls at 9 a.m. third Saturdays. Both are held at Bethel Baptist Church, 2625 Hoyt Ave., Everett.

Assist cancer patients
The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support.
Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles.

MEETINGS
Mill Creek: The developer for a proposed project called The Farm at Mill Creek has planned an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mill Creek Senior Center, 4111 133rd St. SE. The project with 356 apartment units, commercial space and other uses would be located west of The Vintage at Mill Creek, at 3830 and 4008 132nd St. SE. The open house will come the day after the City Council is scheduled to receive a presentation about the project during its 6 p.m. meeting. No action is planned at the council meeting.
