Help students
The Youth and Government program at the Stanwood YMCA is raising money for a field trip to Olympia in May. Two events are planned.
A car wash is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 6 at the Stanwood Les Schwab Tire Center. Price is by donation.
Also, the family-friendly Cowboy Line and Swing Dance runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 4 at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center. Price is $5 per person or $20 per family

Meet police
A “Coffee with a Cop” event with Marysville police officers is planned for 10 a.m. March 27 at The Creamery, 1206 State Ave.

Honor a veteran
In 2005, the American Legion Post 76 and Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1561 dedicated a monument at Arlington’s Legion Park to memorialize local military veterans. Dozens of pavers remain available for purchase to celebrate the service of those in the U.S. Armed Forces. Application forms are available on the city’s website.

Learn leadership
The Parent Leadership Training Institute at Everett Community College is an 11-week course for parents and others who want to learn about advocacy and democracy. Attendees can earn college credit. Children ages 3 to 12 can attend the Children’s Leadership Training Institute.
The next class meets Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings from late March into June. There also are opportunities for donors.

Scholarships for graduating seniors
The local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter is providing four $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors in the Edmonds and Mukilteo school districts. Perspective students must be enrolling full time at an accredited vocational or technical school, college, or university in fall 2019.
Students will be required to submit a transcript of their high school academic record and a resume that lists the high school activities in which they participated, leadership positions they have held, and any volunteer work they have performed. In addition, applicants will be asked to write a 300-500-word essay in which they explain the meaning of freedom to them and how the U.S Constitution establishes and maintains a culture of freedom in our country.
Applications will be available in high school career centers or can be downloaded from VFW website at www.vfw8870.org. The deadline is April 15.
MEETING
The Edmonds Downtown Alliance Board meets at 8:15 a.m. Thursday at Edmonds City Hall in the Brackett Meeting Room, 121 Fifth Ave. N. The board seeks to support and improve business conditions in Edmonds and “ensure our downtown stays lively, attractive and prosperous.”
