EVERETT — Despite reports on Thursday that Felix Hernandez would pitch for Everett at Funko Field on Sunday, the Mariners’ ace won’t be ready to start his rehab process by then, according to AquaSox general manager Danny Tetzlaff.

Hernandez told Seattle reporters that the original rehab plan called for a two-to-three inning start on Sunday in Everett before pitching in Tacoma five days later, but that appeared to be ambitious thinking.

Greg Johns of MLB.com reported Friday that Hernandez will throw a live batting practice session on Sunday before the location of his preliminary minor-league rehab stint can be determined.

Boyd reflects on homecoming

Hearing ‘O Canada’ sung over the speakers at Nat Bailey Stadium gave Louis Boyd chills, he admits.

With about 20 of his closest family and friends, Everett’s new 25-year-old manager and North Vancouver, British Columbia native started his managerial career with a series win over his hometown Canadians, including a come-from-behind win against Vancouver to open the second half of the season.

“As a player, that was my dream to play there, and I was about a week shy of that two years ago (as an AquaSox player), so that was bittersweet,” Boyd said. “Being able to start my managerial career there was priceless, storybook, whatever you want to call it.”

Court gets call

Tacoma infielder Ryan Court was selected to the Mariners’ 25-man roster on Friday, the 31-year-old’s first big-league callup of his career. Court served a lengthy rehab stint with the AquaSox in June and reflected on achieving that elusive goal.

Transaction

■ Robert Perez returned to the AquaSox on Friday after spending the Vancouver series with the AZL Mariners due to a passport issue. Perez hit .182 with a double during the three-game stint.
