EVERETT — A throwing error on Everett relief pitcher Brock Minich allowed a run to score in the top of the ninth, breaking a 7-7 tie, and the Spokane Indians edged the AquaSox, 9-7, on Wednesday night at Funko Field.

The AquaSox (31-34, 13-14 second half) missed out on an opportunity to gain ground on Tri-City in the Northwest League North second-half standings, remaining two games back after the Dust Devils lost 1-0 at home to Vancouver. After Spokane won the first-half title, the second-half winner or the second-place finisher in the second half claims the other playoff spot in the North division.

After walking the first batter, Minich overthrew first base after fielding a bunt attempt, allowing a run to score. A sacrifice fly from David Garcia and a hit batter with the bases loaded put the Indians ahead 10-7 entering the bottom half of the frame.

Spokane’s Joe Corbett (3-0) allowed a run to score on a groundout in the bottom of the ninth, but earned the win.

Minich (0-5) was handed the loss.

Patrick Frick put the AquaSox up 7-6 in the seventh with an RBI single, but Kenen Irizarry’s solo homer to right field tied it in the top of the eighth.

AquaSox starter Deivy Florido struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark, serving up two three-run home runs.

Scott Kapers slugged his first round-tripper of the season with a three-run homer to left in the fourth to put Spokane up 3-0.

Cash Gladfelter worked a walk with the bases loaded to cut the lead to 3-1, but Blaine Crim extended it out to 6-1 with his three-run homer to left in the fifth.

Frick’s RBI single, Gladfelter’s RBI fielder’s choice and Miguel Perez’s two-run double cut the lead all the way to 6-5. Perez scored on a wild pitch from Nick Starr to tie it.
