11 people rescued after 2 boats crash near Astoria

ASTORIA, Ore. — Boaters rescued 11 people from the Columbia River after two boats crashed near Astoria, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The collision was reported at about 9 a.m. Monday near the mouth of the Columbia on the Washington State side of the Astoria-Megler Bridge, KATU-TV reported.

Initial reports said a 20-foot boat collided with a 6-passenger boat, and both sank. Eleven people ended up in the water and other boaters in the area rushed to help, officials said.

While officials didn’t know the current conditions of the boaters, they said everyone was rescued.

Bicyclist killed in Tacoma road accident, police say

A bicyclist died in a crash after hitting a curb in Tacoma early Sunday, police say.

The man was identified as Christopher Brantley, 33, by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.

According to police, Brantley may have been distracted by his phone, which was playing a podcast. His bicycle struck a curb and he sustained a fatal head injury, police say. The Medical Examiner has not yet released a cause or manner of death.

Police say Brantley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Search under way for missing Kingston man

Police in Kitsap County are looking for a missing 58-year-old man. Scott Lee Anderson is believed to have left his residence on foot sometime after 9:30 p.m. Sunday. He did not report to work at his telecommuting job Monday.
