AquaSox blow 3-run lead in 9th, fall to Emeralds

EVERETT — The Everett bullpen gave up five runs in the top of the ninth inning, and the AquaSox blew a late three-run lead in an 11-9 loss to the Eugene Emeralds on Thursday night at Funko Field

In the ninth, Bryan Pall allowed a single, a walk and a three-run home run to Franklin Labour as the Emeralds tied the game at 9-9. Ben Onyshko took over in relief and promptly allowed a solo home run to Heath Quinn as Eugene pulled ahead 10-9. Robert Emery added an RBI single to push the Emeralds’ lead to two.

Jake Anchia, the reigning High-A West Player of the Week, homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the AquaSox offense.

Anchia launched a three-run blast as part of a six-run first inning for Everett. Eugene responded with five runs in the second before the AquaSox plated three more in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run homer from Anchia, to take a 9-5 lead.

Joseph Rosa went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Kennie Taylor singled and drove in a run for his first hit since joining the AquaSox.

Levi Stoudt started for Everett (49-25) and allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits in 5.2 innings. Stoudt struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

Tyler Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and Carter Aldrete homered, doubled and drove in two runs for Eugene (43-32).
