Theft suspect used pepper spray on employee, hit cop car

LYNNWOOD — A woman allegedly stole from a Fred Meyer, used pepper spray on an employee, and hit a police vehicle during her getaway Saturday night.

The employee reportedly tried to stop the woman from stealing when the pepper spray was used at the store at 4615 196th St. SW, according to the Lynnwood Police Department.

The suspect, who was not caught by police, then allegedly ignored a Lynnwood Police Officer’s directions to stop and hit the patrol vehicle as she drove away.

Soon after, the suspect vehicle was reported on fire along Interstate 5 near 220th Street SW. “A concerned passerby” gave the suspect a ride, according to the police department.

Neither the store employee nor the officer were seriously injured.

Officers were investigating the incidents.
