EVERETT — Eric Farris is returning to Everett, and this time he’s taking the reins of the Everett AquaSox for the 2022 season.

The Seattle Mariners announced the staff for their High-A West affiliate in Everett on Wednesday, and Farris will be the team’s new manager.

Farris is entering his fifth season in the Mariners organization and third as a minor-league manager. Last season Farris guided Low-A Modesto to a 64-51 record. In 2020 he was scheduled to manage Single-A West Virginia before the season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Prior to that he served as Everett’s hitting coach in 2018.

“I am very excited to continue the process of developing our players,” Farris said in a press release. “We have a great staff in Everett this season and we are looking forward to working together.”

Farris, a utility player who appeared in 14 major-league games with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2011-12, takes over for Louis Boyd, who managed the Sox for one-plus seasons. Boyd, who posted a 61-56 record with Everett last season, was promoted to Seattle’s minor-league field coordinator.

Farris’ coaching staff is rounded out by pitching coach Matt Pierpont, hitting coach Ryan McLaughlin and bench coach Jose Umbria. Pierpont and McLaughlin will be coaching in Everett for the first time. Umbria was bench coach with the Sox last season.

Athletic trainer Aric Quinney and performance specialist Brennan Mikkelson also return to Everett from last season.

Everett opens the 2022 season, its second as a High-A team, against the Eugene Emeralds on April 8 at Funko Field.
