EVERETT — A frustrating overtime defeat in Game 1 saw the top-seeded Everett Silvertips fall in an early 1-o hole to the eighth-seeded Vancouver Giants in their best-of-seven opening round playoff series.

On Saturday, Everett rebounded in a big way.

The Silvertips scored four goals in the opening period and raced to a 7-3 win over the Giants to even the series at one game apiece.

Niko Huuhtanen scored twice in the opening period sandwiched around goals from Ryan Hofer and Jacob Wright as Everett put the game out of reach early.

Ethan Semeniuk scored early in the second period as Vancouver cut the deficit to 4-1, but Olen Zellweger answered for the Silvertips to push the lead back to four goals.

Mazden Leslie potted a goal at 13:25 in the second and the Giants went into the second intermission with some momentum, trailing 5-2.

But Everett quickly squashed any hope of a comeback with goals from Michal Gut and Ronan Seeley in the final period to take an insurmountable 7-2 lead.

Alex Cotton added a goal with 20 second remaining in the game for Vancouver.

Braden Holt started in goal for the Silvertips and stopped 29 of 32 shots.

Will Gurski stopped 38 of 45 shots for the Giants.

The series next shifts to Vancouver with Game 3 slated for Wednesday at Langley Events Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
