LYNNWOOD — An Alderwood Middle School student attacked a teacher Wednesday, sending the instructor to the hospital, police said.

The alleged assault at the middle school came after a lunch period, according to the Edmonds School District. Staff intervened to calm the situation, and called the police. No weapons were used.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies responded to find the teacher, a woman in her 60s, “seriously injured,” sheriff’s spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said.

The teacher was treated by medics and taken to the hospital, O’Keefe said. She was released from the hospital Wednesday night and is recovering at home, a school district spokesperson said.

Officers arrested the child, 14, for investigation of assault. The student was booked into Denney Juvenile Justice Center.

The student was expelled, according to the school district.
