SNOQUALMIE PASS — A 64-year-old Portland man was injured while climbing the Tooth, a mountain near Snoqualmie Pass.

King County Search and Rescue said the man was recovering Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center after being helicoptered to Seattle. He was injured Monday evening when he fell about 70 feet while climbing down the mountain with a friend.

County officials said the man had just removed some of his safety gear, including his helmet, before he fell.

Another group of climbers witnessed the accident and called 911.

Medical personnel were lowered more than 100 feet to the victim, where they helped him onto a backboard and he was hoisted to a helicopter to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
